April Colwell, LMSW
April is a licensed social worker who received both her bachelor’s degree in psychology and master’s degree in social work at Quinnipiac University. April has experience working with individuals throughout the lifespan and has expertise in treating at-risk teens. She has worked with adults and adolescents in both inpatient and outpatient settings. April specializes in post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, mood disorders, family dynamics, and everyday life stress. She uses dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), trauma-informed CBT, and person-in-environment approaches in her work with clients. April also has formal training in the ARC (attachment, regulation, competency) model which focuses on normative childhood development, traumatic stress, attachment and risk/resilience factors. April believes strongly in the importance of building strong therapeutic relationships leading to optimal therapeutic benefits and improved emotional well-being.
